I think there must be quite a few Americans who can relate to what I talk about in my book because there were German war brides who went to the USA just as much as those who went to England. My mother didn't speak German to us, one of the reasons being that my father could only speak a few words, but I think I inherited a feeling for the language. Your aunt or great aunt - do you know where she came from in Germany?

HelenaHelena Harperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07391901089362614607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8378823602004745374.post-74826099124889104022009-08-04T11:41:22.410-05:002009-08-04T11:41:22.410-05:00Helena, really nice to learn more about you. When I realised that German & English relatives of mine had fought against each other in the World Wars, it was then that the 'contradictions' in my background really came home to me. My book 'Family and More' is really my attempt to come to terms with those contradictions.

Stephen, many thanks for your comment. It wouldn't be easier for me to write about mystery and intrigue in a Cold War setting, because I'm not that way inclined, but each to his own!

Karen - I'm so pleased you enjoyed the book. If it gave you greater awareness in some shape or form, then that is a great reward for me.

Helena
http://www.helenaharper.comHelena Harperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07391901089362614607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8378823602004745374.post-31088343835952496432009-08-03T12:12:44.864-05:002009-08-03T12:12:44.864-05:00Helena's book is so interesting.
